“The Parent Trap” raises a lot of “What If?”-type questions about life, even for adults. It is rated PG, presumably, for the twins’ antics at summer camp and the infrequent “adult situation” of the twins’ dad kissing his girlfriend (plus the 9 or so instances of swearing).
Since neither parent ever remarried, the girls assume that they still love each other and would benefit from meeting again. They switch identities, so each can meet the parent she never knew and so the parents (Brian Keith and Maureen O'Hara ) will eventually have to meet and un-switch them.
W hen the remake of “The Parent Trap” came out, I wondered why the producers didn’t use the Olsen twins and save on the special-effects budget. Aside from contractural issues, the probable reason is that the Olsens had already done “It Takes Two” (also known as “Me and My Shadow”), which is a cross between “The Parent Trap” and “The Prince and the Pauper”.

What appears to be just a typical overhyped teen concert, is quickly revealed to actually be an elaborate trap to catch a notorious serial killer simply called “The Butcher.” The acting is satisfactory overall, and Josh Hartnett is truly the standout. His portrayal of a father with dark disturbing secrets is very compelling.
