The film tells the true story of the San Felipe Mustangs, a group of Mexican-American youths located in Del Rio, Texas. In the 1950s, the group set out to play golf at a white country club in town. Despite prejudice, the Mustangs overcame these obstacles to become the 1957 Texas state champions.

Em 1956, o jovem JB Peña e sua esposa se mudam para a cidade de Del Rio, no Texas, onde ele começa a trabalhar em um clube de golfe, carregando as bolsas de tacos para os jogadores. Porém, ele acaba sendo impedido de realizar o sonho de também se tornar um jogador de golfe devido à sua origem mexicana.
