The Fighting Guardsman is a 1946 American historical adventure film directed by Henry Levin and starring Willard Parker, Anita Louise, Janis Carter and John Loder. Distributed by Columbia Pictures , it is a swashbuckler based on the 1857 novel The Companions of Jehu by Alexander Dumas .

Columbia Pictures' entree into the swashbuckling genre was the opulent 18th century costumer The Fighting Guardsman. Willard Parker stars as Baron Francois de Sainte Hermaine, who is in reality the Robin Hoodlike righter-of-wrongs Roland.
Early publicity notices for The Fighting Guardsman (1946) had Parks in the running for the principal role of a French aristocrat leading a band of peasant partisans in Robin Hood-style revolt against King Louis XVI but when the film went before the cameras in December 1944 it was Parker as Baron Francois de St. Hermaine, aka Roland the Bandit.

Weak lead in Willard Parker lets a good swashbuckler down, but radiant blond Janis Carter saves a decent portion of it. It's a a B-movie, but it's got a lot of life, even if it's not top quality writing at play.
