19 de abr. de 2024 · Despite all of these hidden gems, the Bronx is not able to shake off its reputation, a reputation that was solidified in the 1970s and 80s. In the 1970s, the Bronx was saddled with the phrase, “The Bronx is burning.” While that phrase seems exaggerated, the truth was that the Bronx was really afflicted with arson at the time.
Interesting and appreciate the work & insight. The Bronx look like a bombed out city in the aftermath of its Bronx is burning phase. Also interesting all the multi units were largely replaced by sfh in the rebuilt.
While this is largely true, Castle Hill was never part of “the Bronx was burning” arson epidemic and held its own for much longer than neighborhoods to the west. Truth be told, it still is a pretty solid area with lots of middle class, though it’s more Latino, Guyanese, and South Asian now.
