Nunca mais voltou a público. Barrett morreu em 2006, por complicações advindas de diabetes. Diversas biografias foram escritas sobre ele desde os anos 80, e o Pink Floyd escreveu e gravou inúmeros tributos a ele após sua saída do grupo, sendo o mais conhecido deles o álbum Wish You Were Here, de 1975.
Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett (6 January 1946 – 7 July 2006) was an English singer, guitarist and songwriter who co-founded the rock band Pink Floyd in 1965. Barrett was the band's original frontman and primary songwriter, known for his whimsical style of psychedelia, English-accented singing, and stream-of-consciousness writing style.

He also composed many of their songs . He was responsible for inspiring an entire generation of musicians to develop their own indigenous brand of English rock music.
