JOIN OUR PARISH. Welcome to the St. John Cantius website. I am glad you are here. St. John Cantius has been serving the Roman Catholic community since 1898 on the corner of College and Professor Ave. The parish continues to grow as older homes are being renewed and apartments continue to be built on all sides of our parish.
Tremont’s new Polish residents from Kantowo were granted ecclesiastical approval to establish a parish by the late Bishop Ignatius Hortsmann and St. John Cantius Catholic Church opened in 1898. The first parish was a refurbished streetcar barn located at the corner of Professor Street and College Avenue (site of the present church).
