  1. Stoker, Sir (William) Thornley (1845–1912), surgeon, was born 6 March 1845 in Marino Crescent, Clontarf, Co. Dublin, the eldest of five sons and two daughters of Abraham Stoker (1799–1876), a senior civil servant in Dublin Castle, and Charlotte Matilda Blake Stoker (née Thornley), a voluntary social reformer, of Co. Sligo, daughter of Capt. Thomas Thornley, of the 43rd light infantry.

Stoker was the third of seven children, the eldest of whom was Sir Thornley Stoker, 1st Bt. [1] Abraham and Charlotte were members of the Church of Ireland Parish of Clontarf and attended the parish church with their children, who were baptised there.
