Silvio Micali (born October 13, 1954) is an Italian computer scientist, professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the founder of Algorand, a proof-of-stake blockchain cryptocurrency protocol. Micali's research at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory centers on cryptography and information security.

Silvio Micali is a visionary cryptographer and mathematician who pioneered new methods for efficient verification of mathematical proofs in complexity theory. He and his co-winner Shafi Goldwasser laid the foundations for the science of cryptography with their 1984 paper "Probabilistic Encryption". He has also made contributions to randomness, pseudorandomness, interactive proofs, zero-knowledge proofs, and other topics in computer science and mathematics.
