Sawao Kato, em japonês 加藤 沢男 Katō Sawao, (11 de outubro de 1946 em Gosen, Niigata) foi um ginasta que competiu pela equipe japonesa sênior entre 1968 e 1976. Kato é conhecido também por ser um dos mais bem sucedidos atletas olímpicos da Era Moderna.

At the 1968 Olympic Games, as the newly elected team captain, Kato won the all-around title and led Japan to their third successive victory in the event, with Japanese gymnasts filling four of the top five individual places. Four years later, in Munich, Kato became only the third gymnast in history to retain the men’s all-around title.

Sawao Kato is a Japanese gymnast who won eight gold medals in three consecutive Olympics from 1968 to 1976. He also competed in the individual all-around, floor exercise, parallel bars, horse vault, rings and pommelled horse events.
