It is small hamlet with a public house and a church. The church of St Mary the Virgin, built in the 13th century is believed to be the largest rural parish church in Sussex.

One of northern Europe’s best-surviving medieval landscapes, it is a mixture of ancient woodland, hills, farmsteads, deep valleys and small fields, crossed with sunken droveways – a road or track along which livestock were driven.
