The Rowan County regiment was split on October 22, 1775 into two distinct regiment, the 1st Rowan County Regiment and the 2nd Rowan County Regiment. On December 22 that same year, the North Carolina Provincial Council split the Pasquotank County Regiment into two separate and distinct regiments, the 1st and 2nd Pasquotank County regiments.

It was commanded by Colonel Griffith Rutherford and Colonel Thomas Wade. It was disbanded on April 10, 1776 in favor of Salisbury District Brigade of militia, which was commanded by Brigadier General Griffith Rutherford. Colonel Wade became commander of the Anson County Regiment.

The 7th Arkansas Volunteer Infantry (1861−1865) was a Confederate Army infantry regiment during the American Civil War.Organized mainly from companies, including several prewar volunteer militia companies, raised in northeastern Arkansas, the regiment was among the first transferred to Confederate service, and spent virtually the entire war serving east of the Mississippi River.
On February 8, 1779, the NC General Assembly created Rutherford County and its regiment of Militia out of the western part of Tryon County and its regiment of Militia, which was abolished. All officers were appointed and commissioned by the Governor. The Rutherford County Regiment was active until the end of the war.
