Baroness Fermoy, Diana's maternal grandmother, was in the Queen Mother's inner circle, and as such was always rumoured to have played matchmaker for her granddaughter and Charles (something she denied - the reverse seems to actually have been true).

The Hon. Frances Ruth Roche (1936–2004), who married John Spencer, Viscount Althorp. One of their daughters was Diana, Princess of Wales. Frances divorced Spencer in 1969 and she later married Peter Shand Kydd. The Hon. Edmund James Burke Roche (1939–1984), later the 5th Baron Fermoy, who married Lavinia Pitman.
