Sir George Murray GCB GCH FRS (6 February 1772 – 28 July 1846) was a British soldier and politician from Scotland.
In 1829-1830 Charles Sturt travelled down the Murrumbidgee to its junction with a big river – its name recorded by Major Thomas Mitchell as the ‘Millewah’ – which he called the Murray in Sir George Murray’s honour.

Lt.-Gen. Rt. Hon. Sir George Murray was born on 6 February 1772. 3 He was the son of Sir William Murray of Ochtertyre, 5th Bt. and Augusta Mackenzie. 2 He married Lady Louisa Paget, daughter of Henry Paget, 1st Earl of Uxbridge and Jane Champagné, after 1825. 1 He died on 28 July 1846 at age 74. 1
