  2. Royal Air Force College Cranwell is probably one of the most famous landmarks in Royal Air Force (RAF) history. Its long history dates back to 1918 after the amalgamation of the Royal Naval Air Service and Royal Flying Corps who sought to establish a single unit where officers could be trained to fly.

  4. COLLEGE NOTES Air Vice-Marshal Roy Austen-Smith was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1924. Ten years later he came to England where his parents made their home at Swanley in Kent. He was educated at Hurstpierpoint College and in 1943 joined the Royal Air Force after a short course at St Andrews University.
