Ronald L. Rivest is a co-inventor of the RSA public-key cryptosystem and a founder of RSA, Verisign, and Peppercoin. He is also a professor of computer science at MIT and a member of its Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) and its Theory of Computation Group.

Rivest is a MIT Institute Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and a leader of the Cryptography and Information Security research group. He is a Fellow of the ACM, the AAS, and the NAE, and a recipient of the ACM Turing Award. He is also an inventor of the RSA public-key cryptosystem and a founder of RSA Data Security.
Professor Rivest has current research interests in cryptography, computer and network security, voting systems, algorithms, and exposure notification. In the past he has also worked extensively in the area of machine learning.

Rivest is the Viterbi Professor of Computer Science at MIT, a member of the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and the MIT Theory of Computation Group, and a founding member of the MIT Cryptography and Information Security Group.
