Roger Eugene Maris (born Maras; September 10, 1934 – December 14, 1985) was an American professional baseball right fielder who played 12 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). He is best known for setting a new MLB single-season home run record with 61 home runs in 1961.

Roger Maris was a left-handed outfielder who played for the Kansas City Athletics and the New York Yankees from 1957 to 1967. He holds the record for the most home runs in a single season with 61, and won two World Series championships and one AL MVP award.
Roger Maris was a professional baseball player whose one-season total of 61 home runs (1961) was the highest recorded in the major leagues until 1998. As this feat was accomplished in a 162-game schedule, baseball commissioner Ford C. Frick decreed that Maris had not broken Babe Ruth’s record of 60.
