Robert Southey (Bristol, 12 de agosto de 1774 – Keswick, 21 de março de 1843) foi um historiador, escritor e poeta britânico da escola do romantismo. [1] Em 1813, recebeu o título de Poeta laureado, posto honorifico que tinha como principal função escrever poemas em ocasiões especiais. [2]

9 de abr. de 2024 · Robert Southey was an English poet and writer of miscellaneous prose who is chiefly remembered for his association with Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth, both of whom were leaders of the early Romantic movement.
Southey has been called the architect and chief practitioner of a “Georgian style” in prose, a style that is pure and practical, in contrast to the ponderous and ornate solemnity of the likes of Samuel Johnson or Edward Gibbon or the rhetorical overkill of Edmund Burke.
