Historic Richmond Town is a remarkable living-history village and museum complex that evokes 300 years of the history and culture of New York City. The Town of Richmond, established in the 1690s, became the seat of Staten Island’s county government in 1728.
In 1898, the City of New York was formed with the consolidation of Brooklyn (until then a separate city), the County of New York (which then included parts of the Bronx), the County of Richmond, and the western portion of the County of Queens.
