The polytechnic secondary school, officially ten-class general educational polytechnic secondary school, abbreviation POS, pronounced P-O-S, was the standard type of school in the school system of East Germany. The POS was established in 1959 to replace the hitherto existing Grundschule.

Besides the academics though, this school offers a wide variety of extra and co-curricular activities; from Dragon boating, IVCF, Drama, among many, many other clubs. Additionally, the housing competitions were the best. These competitions ranged from Cricket to Parang, Pageant “Mr and Ms. POLY”, and even Evening Sweat (football).

The school was founded in 1894 as "Battersea Polytechnic Secondary School", in Latchmere Road, London, SW11. The original pupil complement was 35 boys; in 1895 girls were admitted, and the numbers rapidly increased to the maximum then allowed, 80 girls and 120 boys.
