In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Pine Crest School moved all instruction to a virtual format for the spring of the 2019-20 school year. In the 2020-21 school year, Pine Crest offered in-person instruction five days per week with a distance learning option. The distance learning model was fully synchronous.
The Middle School at Pine Crest is a time of much growth - physical, emotional, and intellectual - for students. The classroom experience is student-centered with much emphasis on project-based learning and real-life problem-solving. Middle School teachers encourage and lead students to think critically, to take thoughtful risks, and to innovate.
History of Pine Crest School. In the early 1930s, Dr. Mae McMillan ("Dr. Mae") began tutoring children of winter visitors to Fort Lauderdale. The high caliber of Dr. Mae’s teaching soon attracted full-time local and boarding students, and in 1934 she founded Pine Crest in rented rooms in the old Elks Club Building in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Pine Crest's Lower School curriculum incorporates skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, technology, and communication. Students are exposed to information and activities that stimulate curiosity and excite the imagination while encouraging them to become independent thinkers, intrepid problem solvers, and leaders prepared to meet global challenges of today and the future.
