Peter Robert Lamont Brown FBA (born 26 July 1935) is an Irish historian. He is the Rollins Professor of History Emeritus at Princeton University. Brown is credited with having brought coherence to the field of Late Antiquity, and is often regarded as the inventor of said field.

Peter Brown is a leading scholar of late antiquity, the period from 250 to 800 A.D., when Rome fell, the three major monotheistic religions emerged, and Christianity spread across Europe. He is the author of several books, including Augustine of Hippo, The World of Late Antiquity, and The Rise of Western Christendom, and has received many honors and awards.
