To win the upper hand, it is said that Nell played an awful trick on Davis, putting laxatives in her supper before she went to see the King for the night.
Mary was born on 16 October 1673, to Moll Davis and Charles II, and was the last of the king’s children. She grew up surrounded by the high society of the Restoration - nobles, thespians, dramatists, artists, and poets - and, following in her mother’s footsteps, she began acting at a young age.
