The Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress is a 1944 documentary film which provides an account of the final mission of the crew of the Memphis Belle, a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. In May 1943 it became the third U.S. Army Air Forces heavy bomber to complete 25 missions over Europe, but the first to return to the United States.

The 1944 documentary movie “Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress” increased the aircraft and crew’s already substantial fame. This unique film was the brainchild of legendary film director William Wyler. In 1942, Major Wyler went to England to film heavy bomber operations in Europe.
Cast. Matthew Modine as Captain Dennis Dearborn, pilot: A humourless and socially inept perfectionist. Tate Donovan as 1st Lt. Luke Sinclair, co-pilot: The carefree and somewhat narcissistic former lifeguard, who believes himself to be undervalued by Dearborn.
