Mecklenburg County (/ ˈ m ɛ k l ə n ˌ b ɜːr ɡ /) is a county located in the southwestern region of the U.S. state of North Carolina, in the United States. As of the 2020 census , the population was 1,115,482, [1] making it the second-most populous county in North Carolina (after Wake County ), and the first county in the Carolinas to surpass one million in population. The Rutherford County Regiment was placed under the existing Salisbury District Brigade when it was created in 1779. This brigade was commanded by Brigadier General Griffith Rutherford. In may of 1782, the regiment was re-subordinated to the newly created Morgan District Brigade. The regiment included the following colonels and commandants: [1]
The Surry County Regiment was established on August 26, 1775 by the North Carolina Provincial Congress. The regiment was engaged in battles and skirmishes against the British and Cherokee during the American Revolution in North Carolina, South Carolina Tennessee, and Georgia between 1776 and 1782. It was active until the end of the war.
