Carl Mayer Freiherr von Rothschild (24 April 1788 – 10 March 1855) was a Frankfurt-born banker in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and the founder of the Neopolitan branch of the prominent Rothschild family.

Mayer Carl von Rothschild was born in Frankfurt on 5 August 1820, the eldest of the sons of Carl Mayer von Rothschild (1788-1855) founder of Naples branch of the family business. He eventually took a controlling role in the management of the Frankfurt House after the death of his uncle Amschel in 1855.
Carl Mayer von Rothschild was born in Frankfurt on 24 April 1788 in his father's recently-purchased house, the Grünes Schild. He was the fourth of Mayer Amschel Rothschild's sons, and while not the most gifted of his brothers, he was nevertheless totally absorbed by the family business.

With no secular education and barely able to speak or write German, Mayer Rothschild (1744-1812) became one of the richest men in Germany. He founded a dynasty of bankers who financed the wars and whims of nobility and governments.
Mayer Carl von Rothschild’s collection of almost five thousand works of art was set out in his Frankfurt house on the Untermainquai and his villa at the Gunthersburg, outside the town. 36 German plate stood out among the Limoges enamels, gold boxes from Paris, Dresden and Vienna
