Maurice Sterne (Latvian: Moriss Šterns, 1877 or 1878 – July 23, 1957) was an American sculptor and painter remembered today for his association with philanthropist Mabel Dodge Luhan, to whom he was married from 1916 to 1923.

Maurice Sterne (Latvian: Moriss Šterns, 1877 or 1878 – July 23, 1957) was an American sculptor and painter remembered today for his association with philanthropist Mabel Dodge Luhan, to whom he was married from 1916 to 1923.
Biography. Painter and sculptor. He traveled extensively and drew upon his voyages for inspiration; paintings of life in Bali were particularly well received. In 1933 he had a retrospective at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the first American so honored.
