  1. Ravel in 1925. Joseph Maurice Ravel (7 March 1875 – 28 December 1937) was a French composer, pianist and conductor. He is often associated with Impressionism along with his elder contemporary Claude Debussy, although both composers rejected the term.

  2. Despite his deep understanding of the piano and of the orchestra, Ravel never considered himself either a pianist or a conductor. In the wings for a performance as soloist in his G-major concerto, he supposedly remarked to the conductor, "What a pity. Now it will all be ruined."

  6. Joseph-Maurice Ravel was a French composer, conductor and pianist. He is often mentioned alongside Claude Debussy as one of the pioneers of impressionist music. Ravel was also known for his extremely difficult piano pieces; which demanded perfect technique and resonating skill from pianists.
