Biography. Marianne was born in 1788 in Maryland, USA. She was the daughter of Richard Caton and Mary 'Polly' Carroll and the granddaughter of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, a signatory to the Declaration of Independence. Marianne married Robert Patterson and became the sister-in-law of Elizabeth (Patterson) Bonaparte.
