Margaret Cavendish Bentinck, Duchess of Portland (11 February 1715 – 17 July 1785) was the richest woman in Great Britain of her time, styled Lady Margaret Harley before 1734, Duchess of Portland from 1734 to her husband's death in 1761, and Dowager Duchess of Portland from 1761 until her own death in 1785.
Perhaps the most famous item which formed part of her collection was the so-called 'Portland Vase', now held by the British Museum. An engraving of a bust of the Duchess of Portland, by George Vertue, after John Michael Rysbrack, is available on the National Portrait Gallery website.

On 11 July 1734, she married William Bentinck, Duke of Portland, and they had six children. Her husband died in 1761 and she was known as the Dowager Duchess of Portland until her death in 1785. She was a great collector of plants, animals and natural history specimens, as well as works of art.
