He was born around 1065 and was little heard of until his brothers Cadwgan and Iorweth, both powerful rulers, were murdered. Maredudd was not chosen as the next king of Powys but rather Cadwgan’s son Owain.

The eldest, Madog, was destined to play a major role in the Welsh wars of Edward I. As I have described, their father was slain in a battle in the valley of the Clun in April 1263.

The purpose of this meeting was to prepare the defence of the Welsh coast against a threatened Scots invasion from Ireland.

  7. 3 de mai. de 2024 · Failed insurance. Llywelyn ap Maredudd, killed in battle at the Clun valley in 1263, was a grandson of Llywelyn Fawr (the Great). He was also lord of Meirionydd in North Wales, and in 1241 swore homage for his land to Henry III. This was insurance, to protect Meirionydd from Gwynedd.
