The two met in 1916. Strachey had studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he met Clive Bell, Leonard Woolf and Saxon Sydney-Turner.

Proslul zvláště knihou Eminent Victorians. Založil jí novou formu biografie, v níž se psychologický vhled a sympatie snoubí s neuctivostí a vtipem.
Giles Lytton Strachey nasceu em 1880 em Londres e morreu em 1932 em Berkeshire. Formado na Universidade de Cambridge, integrante do grupo de Bloomsbury, notabilizou-se por seus ensaios, críticas literárias e biografias. Lytton Strachey, whose iconoclastic reexaminations of historical figures forever changed the course of modern biographical writing, was born in London on March 1, 1880. He was educated in a series of private schools and attended University College, Liverpool, before entering Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1899.
