Lothair I was a 9th-century Carolingian emperor and king of Italy and Middle Francia. He fought several wars with his brothers over the inheritance of their father Louis the Pious and the division of the Frankish Empire.
Lothair was the penultimate Carolingian king of West Francia from 954 to 986. He faced conflicts with his relatives, the Holy Roman Empire, and the Lotharingian party, and lost most of his lands to Hugh Capet.
