Shalamar sold over 25 million records until the classic line up split in the mid eighties. They are acknowledged as one of the best funk and soul groups of their generation. Shalamar. Shalamar is een Amerikaanse groep, die disco, soul en funk maakte en die in de vroege jaren 80 haar grootste successen scoorde. De groep is in 1977 ontstaan uit twee achtergronddansers uit het Amerikaanse soul-tv-programma "Soultrain". De twee dansers waren de toen nog jonge Jeffrey Daniel en Jody Watley.
Nonostante la perdita di tanta parte del gruppo, il successivo album The Look, che nel 1983 percorse nuove sonorità new wave e rock, riuscì a vendere bene piazzando alcuni singoli nelle classifiche inglesi pur senza ripetere il successo precedente.
