18 de abr. de 2024 · Charles Sackville, 6th earl of Dorset (born 1643—died 1706) was a typical courtier of the reign of British king Charles II, a munificent patron to many men of letters, and a friend of John Dryden. Dorset was himself a poet whose satires in heroic couplets anticipated and influenced the style of Alexander Pope.
8 de mai. de 2024 · Sackville sat in the House of Commons, 1640–1643, as Lord Buckhurst, representing East Grinstead in Sussex; he was involved in the political events leading to the English Civil War, and was arrested by Parliament in 1642 and fined £1500 in 1644. After that point, however, he played no active role in the conflict.
