18 de jul. de 2020 · In Nov 1948, Thimayya moved Stuart tanks in utmost secrecy by dismantling their turrets and used them in direct firing role that led to the capture of Zoji-la which had evaded capture on previous instances. It was because Zoji-la was in our hands that liberation of Kargil was possible in 1999.

In 1925, my father Codanda Madaiah Cariappa was then stationed at Sivasamudram (near Mysore, Karnataka) and was in charge of the Hydro Electric Station, the first in Asia at that time.

General Thimayya served as Chief of Army Staff between 1957 and 1961. The museum seeks to honour the life of the General while also displaying the history of the Indian military.
