  2. Sir Howard Kingsley Wood (19 August 1881 – 21 September 1943) was a British Conservative politician. The son of a Wesleyan Methodist minister, he qualified as a solicitor, and successfully specialised in industrial insurance. He became a member of the London County Council and then a Member of Parliament .

  4. With the exception of the Labour Government 1929-31, Wood was continuously in high office from 1925 until his sudden death in 1943. He was a junior health minister alongside Neville Chamberlain, Postmaster-General 1931-35, Health Minister 1935-38, Air Minister 1938-40 and then Chancellor of the Exchequer.
