Gray Smith (1959–) Joy St Clair Hester (21 August 1920 – 4 December 1960) was an Australian artist. She was a member of the Angry Penguins movement and the Heide Circle who played an integral role in the development of Australian Modernism. [1] Hester is best known for her bold and expressive ink drawings. [1]

Joy Hester was a significant Australian modernist artist known for her expressionistic, personal drawings. She was associated with the Heide group of artists and the Angry Penguins group, and had a long-term relationship with Albert Tucker. She died of cancer in 1960.
