  4. John Stevens Henslow was a Reverend Professor of Botany at Cambridge University and a close friend of Charles Darwin. He taught Darwin much of his scientific technique, arranged a place for him on the Beagle, and published his letters and samples. He also arranged for Darwin to become a rector in Hitcham, Suffolk, where he improved the local community and science.
