  4. Haldane was the first to classify the three types of hypoxaemia-lack of oxygen, lack of haemoglobin, or lack of circulation. He recommended up to 41% oxygen administration continuously for hypoxic patients as ‘intermittent oxygen therapy was like bringing a drowning man to the surface of the water – occasionally’.
