  6. Beginnings. Buchan was born in Perth, but moved in early infancy to Pathhead, Fife, where his father had been appointed Free Church minister. In 1888, his father was called to the John Knox Church in Glasgow, where Buchan attended Hutcheson’s Grammar School and went on to read Classics at Glasgow University.
