John Bardeen was a Nobel Prize-winning physicist who worked on solid state physics, superconductivity, and semiconductors. He was born in 1908 in Wisconsin and received his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1936. He was a professor at the University of Illinois and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He died in 1991.

Brattain for their joint invention of the transistor. With Leon N. Cooper and John R. Schrieffer, he was awarded the 1972.
