7 de jun. de 2022 · The latest State of Food Security and Nutrition report shows that the world is moving backwards in efforts to eliminate hunger and malnutrition, with the number of people affected by hunger rising by 46 million and 150 million since the COVID-19 pandemic. The report also highlights the impact of conflict, climate extremes and economic shocks on food insecurity and malnutrition, and suggests ways to repurpose agricultural policies to support nutritious foods.
In politics, humanitarian aid, and the social sciences, hunger is defined as a condition in which a person does not have the physical or financial capability to eat sufficient food to meet basic nutritional needs for a sustained period.
The world is facing a food crisis of unprecedented proportions, with more than 783 million people facing chronic hunger and acute levels of food insecurity. Conflict, climate shocks, fertilizer prices and the war in Ukraine are the main drivers of the crisis. WFP is working to save lives, invest in solutions and end hunger by 2030.
Hunger is more complicated than empty bellies. It’s a multifaceted problem with many root causes and far-reaching impact. The first step to ending the global hunger crisis is to understand what it is and why it exists in a world of plenty.
