In 1873, the pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church in East Saginaw, Fr. Francis van der Bom, requested that the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul open a hospital in Saginaw. The facility opened after the arrival of four sisters of the Daughters of Charity on August 22, 1874.
St Mary's is also the site of a sculpture named Land Sea Light Koan, often shortened to 'the Koan'. The sculpture, which was created by Liliane Lijn and commissioned by the Isle of Wight Health Authority, was installed in 1997. A new Medical Assessment Unit with 24 beds and space for 6 ambulant patients opened in August 2015.

Bethlem Royal Hospital, also known as St. Mary Bethlehem, Bethlehem Hospital and Bedlam, is a psychiatric hospital in Bromley, London. Its famous history has inspired several horror books, films, and TV series, most notably Bedlam, a 1946 film with Boris Karloff . The hospital is part of the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
St Mary's Hospital Medical School was the youngest of the constituent medical schools of Imperial College School of Medicine, founded in 1854 as part of the new hospital in Paddington. During its existence in the 1980s and 1990s, it was the most popular medical school in the country, with an application to place ratio of 27:1 in 1996.

The facility became St Mary's Hospital in 1930 and joined the National Health Service in 1948. The main block of the old workhouse was converted into flats and re-named "St Mary's House" in 1990. In May 2018 the trust announced plans to refurbish the buildings and turn the site into a health campus. References
