Major-General the Honourable Sir William Ponsonby, KCB Irish politician and British Army officer who served in the Peninsula War and was killed at the Battle of Waterloo. Second son of William Brabazon Ponsonby, 1st Baron (15 September 1744 – 5 November 1806), by the Hon. Louisa (1749–1824), fourth daughter of the 3rd Viscount Molesworth.
Le Marchant was killed in the battle and Ponsonby took over command of the Heavy Brigade. He led them at Vittoria and the Battle of the Pyrenees, relinquishing command on 25th Jan 1814.
