Major-General the Honourable Sir William Ponsonby, KCB Irish politician and British Army officer who served in the Peninsula War and was killed at the Battle of Waterloo. Second son of William Brabazon Ponsonby, 1st Baron (15 September 1744 – 5 November 1806), by the Hon. Louisa (1749–1824), fourth daughter of the 3rd Viscount Molesworth.

In 1769 Ponsonby married Louisa Molesworth (1749–1824), 4th daughter of the 3rd Viscount Molesworth, and his second wife, Mary Usher. They had five sons, four of whom were men of note and one daughter. John Ponsonby, 1st Viscount Ponsonby, was a diplomat; Hon. Sir William Ponsonby, a major-general in the army was killed at the Battle of Waterloo

Constance Louisa Ponsonby-Fane (23 March 1856 – 4 May 1930), married William Robert Phelips on 1 January 1881 and had issue. Clementina Sarah Ponsonby-Fane (27 July 1859 – 15 September 1934), married Sir Edmund Turton, 1st Baronet, on 9 August 1888.
