Dissent in Attenborough: the Ireton family. Henry Ireton (1611-1651) was a prominent Parliamentarian soldier in the Civil War, rising to become Cromwell’s lieutenant in Ireland. He was one of the men who signed King Charles I’s execution warrant in 1649. He was born at Attenborough in Nottinghamshire, the son of German and Jane Ireton.
