Henry Ireton was a minor gentleman from Attenborough in Nottinghamshire. He joined the Parliamentary army and served in Cromwell’s regiment of horse, rising to become Commissary General in 1645. He took part in the Putney Debates in 1647, where he opposed the Levellers, and was one of the commissioners who signed King Charles I’s death warrant in 1649.
Henry Ireton (baptised 3 November 1611; died 26 November 1651) was an English general in the Parliamentarian army during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, and the son-in-law of Oliver Cromwell.
