Grover Cleveland Alexander (February 26, 1887 – November 4, 1950), nicknamed "Old Pete" and "Alexander the Great", was an American Major League Baseball pitcher. He played from 1911 through 1930 for the Philadelphia Phillies , Chicago Cubs , and St. Louis Cardinals .

During his 20 seasons in the big leagues, Alexander would become one of the most successful pitchers the game has ever seen. Using a wide variety of breaking pitches, deceptive speed and pinpoint control, Alexander soon found himself being compared to the top pitchers of his era.
