On 22 March 1911, a royal proclamation announced that the Durbar would be held in December to commemorate the coronation in Britain a few months earlier of King George V and Queen Mary and allow their proclamation as Emperor and Empress of India.
This detailed narrative of the 1911 royal tour of India was written by The Hon. John Fortescue, a British military historian and the Royal Librarian at Windsor Castle. Like the Padshahnama , and other Mughal history texts, it describes all the daily public activities of the King-Emperor.
