  1. Graham Howard Shepard (1907–20 September 1943) was an English illustrator and cartoonist. He was the son of Ernest H. Shepard, the illustrator of Winnie-the-Pooh and The Wind in the Willows. He was educated at Marlborough College and Lincoln College, Oxford.

  2. Shepard lived at Melina Place in St John's Wood and from 1955 in Lodsworth, West Sussex. He and Florence had two children, Graham (born 1907) and Mary (born 1909), who both became illustrators. Lt. Graham Shepard died when his ship HMS Polyanthus was sunk by German submarine U-952 in September 1943.

  7. Shepard made some of his best artwork after the publishing of the Pooh books and was pleased with the amount of commissions that were sent to him in the late 1920s. By 1931, Kenneth Grahame invited Shepard to illustrate his children’s classic The Wind in the Willows.
